Located on the historic Snake Den Farm in Johnston, RI, Wicked Tulips Flower Farm has only been open for two seasons but is already so wildly popular that their tickets sell out regularly. The farm just opened up for the season last week and their smaller field is in full bloom.
I wanted to make sure I posted about my trip right away since their season is so short. Hopefully some of you local readers can make the trip.
Prepare for tulip photo overload (it’s so beautiful, I couldn’t help but take a million pictures) and some tips if you plan to visit.
When I was young my family traveled out to Pella, Iowa every summer to visit my Grandparents. Pella has a large Dutch population and is a sister-city to Holland. We used to go to the Tulip Time Festival every year and broom the streets in a big parade.
Not only that – we got to wear Dutch costumes! (I am the one in the middle.) I remember being quite jealous that my Mom got to wear the wooden clogs and there weren’t any that could fit me.
Anyways, I got this email forward and had to share. It’s amazing how art imitates life.
This is the northern Netherlands in the middle of tulip season. It’s a kaleidoscope of color. More than three billion tulips are grown each year and two-thirds of the vibrant blooms are exported, mostly to the U.S. and Germany.
