Wicked Tulips Flower Farm

Located on the historic Snake Den Farm in Johnston, RI, Wicked Tulips Flower Farm has only been open for two seasons but is already so wildly popular that their tickets sell out regularly. The farm just opened up for the season last week and their smaller field is in full bloom.

I wanted to make sure I posted about my trip right away since their season is so short. Hopefully some of you local readers can make the trip.

Prepare for tulip photo overload (it’s so beautiful, I couldn’t help but take a million pictures) and some tips if you plan to visit.

The Wild Rumpus at Tower Hill Botanical Garden

A few weeks ago I met a friend at Tower Hill Botanical Garden in Boylston, MA to see the Wild Rumpus Stickwork exhibit. It was my first time at Tower Hill. What a beautiful place!

Tower Hill Botanical Garden - Wild Rumpus

Wild Rumpus is inspired by the famous children’s book Where the Wild Things Are. The Stickwork exhibit feels like the magical towers sprouted right from the ground.

A Boston Halloween

Happy Halloween friends!

halloween2

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Since my birthday is right before Halloween I grew up having costume birthday parties filled with pumpkin cakes and other seasonal treats. Now that my own baby is also a Halloween baby, I expect that tradition will only continue. We’ve added our own traditions – including pumpkin beer and cider tasting with friends, and making quadruple-size batches of butternut squash soup, and enjoying homemade pumpkin spice lattes.

Brimfield Antique Fair – Tips for First-Timers

I have had the Brimfield Antique Fair earmarked on my list of things to do for years and this past spring I finally went! It was both huge and amazing, and I definitely plan to go again. Being so big, I found the fair intimidating when I read about it.

Brimfield1

Since round two of the famous fair starts this week (July 12-17, 2016), I thought I’d share my top tips for Brimfield first-timers.

Eating our Way Through Portland, Maine

If Virginia is for lovers, Portland, Maine is for foodies.
portland
A while back we headed up to Maine for a weekend away. Being my first time to Portland, the industrial coastal city was larger than I had anticipated and surprisingly chock full of culinary goodness. When I started researching for things to do in Portland, it immediately became apparent this was going to be a food-centric trip.

SOWA Saturdays in Boston’s South End

To me, the South End is classic Boston. Gorgeous brick homes with elaborate bannisters and tree and streetlamp lined streets. Forget the fact that finding a non-resident parking spot is nearly impossible – once you overlook that small fact, the South End is perfection.

The South End in Boston

I was meeting a friend to explore the famous SoWA (South of Washington) Open Market. On my long, long walk from my parking spot to SoWA, I couldn’t help but snap some photos along the way there, only to find they do have some limited parking on-site. Oh well.

How to Plan A Weekend in Nantucket

how-to-plan-a-weekend-on-nantucket

Nantucket in September is the ideal beach getaway. The crowds have dissipated, the ocean has grown warmer from a summer’s worth of sunshine, and it’s not so hot that you want to curl up next to an air conditioner. The days are pleasant and the nights are cool. Call me crazy, but September really is my favorite beach month!

An Afternoon in Stockbridge

A few weeks ago we took a road trip pit-stop in the Berkshires in western Massachusetts. I’ve been out in the Berkshires only twice, once for cross-country skiing in the middle of the winter, and for a James Taylor concert at Tanglewood. Both times driving through the surround area was a big lovely tease! After all these years of speeding through the Berkshires on our way to visit family, it was time to check it out.

Stockbridge11

The town of Stockbridge is a sleepy quasi-resort Americana town. Beyond the beautiful Berkshires, the area is best known for being the adult home of famous American Painter Norman Rockwell.
